Mission:

The NRCC is dedicated to the development of radiation transport simulations to enhance public safety, to serve the nuclear engineering and science community, for homeland security applications, and to expand the use of high-speed computing in nuclear modeling. The NRCC is housed in the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and employs a heterogeneous assortment of computers and operating systems to provide parallized computing support for its researchers. The Center's resources will also be utilized to expedite the design of radiation and nuclear facilities by incorporating radiation transport and criticality calculations early in the design process.

Goals:

· Develop state-of-the-art computing technology to run MCNPX, SCALE, and other radiation transport and nuclear codes greatly increased speeds. This includes the development of parallelized codes under Parallel Virtual Machine (PVM) and Message Passing Interface (MPI).
· Provide a radiation transport design team that can be employed to design nuclear facilities and technologies while incorporating radiation shielding, criticality control, and radiation dose calculations early in the design process.
· Train undergraduate and graduate students in the use of radiation transport simulation codes.
